**DOCUMENTATION FOR TEMPLATE TITLES**
NURSING OUTLINE,THERAPY LIST,NURSING FORM
Note: Before using any templates you may want a printed copy of @
>these directions so that you can follow along while each file
is on the screen.
Nursing Outline
G This template was originally designed for use by nursing students D
Bwho were required to place information in outline form. Although =
;it was not a very difficult template to prepare, it can be @
>slightly tricky to use. Once they learned how to use it, the D
Bstudents found this a very useful tool not only for their special A
?purpose but also for transcribing hand written notes into ones
more organized and legible.
B First, change the name of each template using the O-A-N(open C
Aapple name) command while you are using it so that you will have ?
=a "clean" one available encase you accidentally hit O-A-SAVE '
which will write over the original.
F Second be sure to hit O-A-Z so you can see the printing commands @
>while you are viewing the templates. Next, notice the indent @
>option on line seventeen. This means the first sentence of a C
Aparagraph will start in the left most column but all other lines B
@in that same paragraph will be indented twenty-seven characters A
?and will start printing at the twenty-eighth character. Since B
@you want the information other than the outline titles to begin C
Atwenty eight spaces from the left margin, you can either use the D
Bspace bar to move the curser to the starting point or you can tab B
@until you are in the proper column. This has already been done :
8for you. Notice, that as you type your information the B
@subheadings of the outline move downward and make room for your A
?new text. Beware though, that if you press the return key and B
@begin a new paragraph you will have to manually move the curser ;
9to the twenty-eighth space for the first line of the new
paragraph.
Therapy List
D This template is used by our respiratory therapy department to C
Amake a list of patients receiving treatments. This was the most D
Bchallenging of them to design. Since this is used by many people A
?who do not care for computers, I had to be sure and make it as D
Bsimple to use as possible. Also, I had to make it print out in a &
format my supervisor would accept.
I could not get a true tables style format which would :
E o Print all the titles without too much abbreviation )
and fit on one line in 132 column mode.B
@ o Print only those catagories which actually had
entries.D
B o Allow the easiest way to enter and edit data for !
those computer shy individuals.
F Since I could not use the tables format, I needed to arrange the B
@lables format to accomadate a "tables like" format but with the
characteristics I wanted.
E When you first zoom in on the first record you will notice that @
>the title and the entry are the same except for the fifth and A
?sixth catagories. If you print out the actual list it will be B
@more evident why I chose to do this. Having the catagory names C
Aas a record allowed me to have the titles print out only once in B
@the list. Notice that the entry "*RM" has an asterik preceding B
@it. This is necessary to allow the column to be sorted by room ?
=number even though it was actually sorted alphabetically. I =
;chose the second record to contain all dashes because this D
Bseparates the titles from the records nicely, but it also remains 5
in the order it should when this column is sorted.
B Next, execute an O-A-P to get the print format "RX.LIST.L". B
@There are numerous things you can do at this point. If you use D
Bthe help command you will notice slight differences in the use of C
Athe open-apple keys. Choosing O-A-V will allow you to print the B
@entry and
the catagory name if you so desire. O-A-Z will D
Ballow you switch between catagory names and entries while you are D
Bdesigning your format. move the curser toward the right margin. =
;You notice that the entries extend over one hundred twenty B
@spaces. Also, notice that the third, fourth, and fifth entries "
are placed in the same column.
E Now, go to the O-A-P option. It shows that characters per inch C
Ais set to seventeen to accomodate the one hundred twenty columns ?
=plus, the entries occupy. Left and right margins are set to B
@zero. Formatting options show that you may not want to print a A
?dash when an entry is empty. This saves on row space when the D
Bfifth and sixth entries are empty. The OL option goes along with @
>the PD option since you may not want to print blank lines and
waste space.
Nursing Form
F Nursing instructors are well known for designing forms which are ?
=used to record information width wise. This is done because D
Btypewriter type size does not allow as many columns length wise. D
BIt is a well known phenomenon in printing spreadsheets. Well, you ?
=say I could purchase one of those programs which allow me to <
:print sideways. I did that but with no success since the D
Bsoftware does not support our particular printer! Therefore, the D
Bstudents needed something which would allow them to fit all those 7
columns length wise if they were to use this program.
D The word processor allows you to enter information that can be C
Aprinted in one hundred thirty two columns but it can't be viewed C
Aas such on the screen which makes it very difficult to know what A
?to edit. The spreadsheet solves this problem but with certain A
?reservations. I will elaborate on those as I take you through
the worksheet.
C Each title is included in six columns and each column is four B
@spaces wide. By limiting the width to four spaces information B
@can be edited in smaller portions. The protection scheme is on B
@so information does not overwright titles and cannot be entered 8
in the columns (H,P,X,F), which divide each section.
C It is important to understand that as the curser is moved and B
@reaches the columns that separate each section, the cell to the C
Aimmediate left will look like it is full but it will continue to B
@accept information. It will not be visible except in the lower B
@left hand corner of the screen. There are no bells to warn you
of this.
F It may be a good idea to occasionally leave rows blank. Then if B
@you decide to move information there it will not break up other
paragraphs or sentences.
? Again, as with the other templates, the print options are D
Bsimilar. The left and right margins are set at zero. Characters C
Aper inch are seventeen. There are no special characters sent to -
the printer but you may find need for them.
EThese templates were designed for very specific applications but I'm 4
sure they would be useful for many other purposes.
